Don’t give them power.
I hope you listen to me, I hope you listen and understand. What i'm about to tell you may sound like a warning but don't get me wrong, It's more of a public service announcement. You see we're facing an evil in our time, an evil more powerful then anything we've ever faced before and the time for warnings is over. We created this and now we must deal with it. I first came across this darkness in a strange way. You see everything i've read about people's close encounters with monsters or ghosts have followed a pattern. First a person encounters the monster, then they research it (and by that i mean they google it). Then they find their hero complex, look up ancient lore trying to find a way to kill it, gather weapons and make their way into the forest trying to save the world from said evil monster. A few days later theres a face on a milk carton,an invesigation starts and the body of the hero monster hunter is found in the woods torn up. Its labled as an animal attack for the general public, everyones surprised for a few minutes and then soon after goes about there business. Like nothing in the world has gone wrong. The pattern has stayed the same for as long as people can remember. Until around 2009, when i saw the darkness for the first time. Browsing the internet I came across a site that was filled with stories about monsters, a site that asked me to suspend my disbelief while i browsed it. This site was a mix of everything good and bad but one story caught my attention. A story of a thinman in a black suit, the author of the story had spoken about him as if he was real, there were even photos which were clearly photoshopped. I immediately brushed it off, it was a scary story but it wasnt real. I turned off my computer, and my conciouse was already thinking about sleep, my subconcious however was thinking about something else. As i lay in bed that night i started to think. What if it was real, what if the monster i had just read about was in the room at the moment, what if it was watching me, the dark corner of the room got scarier. The unknown space underneath my bed got louder and in a desperate attempt to save myself i turned on the light. There was nothing there, my imagination had got the better of me and as i fell asleep i truly believed that in that moment, monsters were not real. The next few days, though, changed my mind. The story stuck with me, the monster became more convincing the more i thought about it, it was convincing to a point where i could hear it behind me or see it out of the corner of my eye, i was growing more and more afraid. Naturally, as the hero, ready to defeat the monster, I researched it (I googled it) and i found a lot of lore on monsters. From Vampires to Tulpa's to Werewolfs. I read through all the lore extensively and found that nothing had matched the monster i had come face to face with. Apart from the stories on that site There has never been an encounter with that monster and if no one has ever encountered it before then it cant be real. I had completely given up on the idea that SlenderMan could exist. So i forgot about it but my subconcious was still nagging me. Like there was something that i was missing. Weeks past, and then months and then years. Slenderman had both become famous and infamous at the same time appearing in multiple facets of pop culture, and i couldnt care less. Until a few days ago. Thats when the strange stories started to hit the newspapers. -A man had left his child in a hot car all day, he blamed it on his new phone, he's pyschiatrists says he went into some sort of autopilot mode. -A application programmer who had locked himself in his bedroom in a hotel basement was checked into a psych ward with psychosis after he gouged his eyes out, he says aliens are trying to take control of us. -A suicide epidemic targeting teenagers has spread countrywide due to faulty music in a game stage called lavender town. -A phantom signal has been shutting down tv stations, children report seeing a pirate show play during times of dead air. All these stories had sounded so familiar to me, they scratched at my brain and i could figure out why, That was until i came face to face with HIM. Late one night there was a knock on my door, Looking through the peephole i couldnt see anything. I live in a safe neighbourhood so i opened the door and there he was. Slenderman, standing across the lawn staring at me. His featureless face showing me that i had everything to fear. His long tentacles moving, mesmerisimg me. Then he was gone, in a split second he was gone and my whole world shattered. I went back to the site, the one i had visited years ago, where i first heard about him. Looking, pleading for any information. Thats when it all came together. The first thing i noticed was the count, When i first logged onto the site in 2009 there were thousand of stories, all spanning different topics and different monsters. Now there were millions. The second thing i noticed was that the slenderman story, and all the stories in the newspapers were in the top ten. The third thing i noticed was the published date. All these stories sounded familiar because i had read them all, a long time ago. The stories on the website had predated there appearence in the newspaper. Some by years. This was impossible, but it was all real and the tagline of the website was what made me understand. The suspention of disbelief. Years earlier i had read about Tulpa's. Creatures that had been created out of sheer willpower. The mind is a powerful tool, and when a person believes enough, theres a small chance that they can will what they believe into existance. Years earlier when i entered that site i suspended my disbelief, but it wasn't just me, it was millions, maybe even billions of people and somehow, Through our willpower and fear for the monster we had created, we unintentionally brought them to life. The scariest part of this though was that we were guided to do it. In 2009 we started to spread our stories on a massive scale but in 2007 someone had created the means for us to do it. They had created creepypasta knowing what it would become. I won't rest until i find this person, I wont rest until i know why.
