The Cockroaches drilled into our ears and ate our brainstem
They had finally evolved into killer versions of themselves. They weren't waiting around for humans to turn the earth into a toxic wasteland anymore. So they became better. Soon all over the world the cockroaches evolved powerful biting and drilling capabilities. The second someone fell asleep or laid their head on the ground they drilled deep into their head. A construction worker was making a racket nearby, hammering away, he slipped and fell and multiple cockroaches drilled into his head. He was one of the first victims. Before his brainstem got eaten he felt a wave of pure terror and horror at his utterly pathetic waste of life, ruining the peace for hundreds of people as he pounded away at his construction projects. But now he was gone, and his skull was just a lifeless husk filled with cockroaches. This continued for years. The cockroaches drilled out more and more of peoples brains, slowly taking over. Nothing could be done. They were immune to radiation, poisons, sprays, we tried everything. But they just kept coming. Not even solid metal earmuffs could stop them, they drilled in through your mouth or nose. Until everyone covered their whole face. But then they drilled up humans asses by the thousands. Soon every hole was covered. That stopped the bugs for a while, but then they learned how to eat through skin, so they just drilled right through people's bodies and ate their brain stem anyways. When you got your brainstem eating you had flashbacks of memories of your life and a feeling of pure horror that lasted before your eyes rolled back in your head and you went limp, finally dead and put out of your misery. Only the elites were saved by building powerful underground bunkers where the bugs couldnt reach. They lived out the remainder of their life in terror and squalor, desperately clinging to what little life they had. Many committed suicide because the terror was so extreme that a bug might get them at any second. It had already gotten most of their families anyways so they didnt have much to live for anymore in their dirty underground tiny bunkers. Soon the cockroaches ruled the earth. They evolved and became more intelligent, evolution led them to create many new things and they lived a life of peace and abundance, free at last from human scum trodding them forever underfoot.
